Privacy policy

Encore is a habit app designed to work without an account. This page explains what data exists, where it goes and how you control it.

Your habits stay with you

Your habit names, mini versions, cues, notes and check-in history are stored only on your iPhone. If iCloud is on, the app keeps a copy in your own iCloud, in a space reserved for the app. We have no access to your device or your iCloud: we never see this information.

Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your iPhone; they don't go through any server.

Anonymous usage statistics

To learn which features are used and where people drop off, the app sends short anonymous signals to TelemetryDeck (TelemetryDeck GmbH, Von-der-Tann-Str. 54, 86159 Augsburg, Germany), acting as our processor:

SentNever sent
The event type (app opened, onboarding finished, habit created, archived or checked, stage reached, day completed, light day or pause, restart, Premium screen viewed, purchase made); a few details with no free text (mini or full, rounded number of habits, plan purchased); a random installation identifier, hashed before sending. A habit's name, mini version, cue or notes; your dates; your name or email; the advertising identifier (IDFA); your location.

The identifier is generated at random when the app is installed, is used only to count distinct users and is not linked to any other data. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving the app (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). You can object at any time: Settings › Data › Anonymous statistics. No further signals are sent.

The identifier is hashed once on your iPhone, then hashed again with a secret salt on arrival: neither TelemetryDeck nor we can trace it back to your device. According to TelemetryDeck, your device's IP address is never stored (neither in databases nor in logs) and signals are hosted in the European Union (Germany and the Netherlands). TelemetryDeck states that it keeps aggregated signals for up to 7 to 10 years; they contain no data that identifies you.

Premium purchases

Payments are handled by Apple; we never see your payment details. To know whether Premium is active, the app uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., 1032 E Brandon Blvd #3003, Brandon, FL 33511, United States), acting as our processor, which receives an anonymous identifier generated by the app and the purchase receipts provided by Apple. Legal basis: performance of a contract (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)). This data is hosted in the United States; the transfer is covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses included in RevenueCat's data processing agreement.

What we don't do

Your rights

You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection and restriction. Since we hold no data that identifies you, the most direct route is to turn statistics off in Settings and delete the app (and its backup under iOS Settings › [your name] › iCloud). For any question: contact@encorehabits.com. You may also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL).
